'Via Crucis' Interview from The Metal Crawlspace

By Seth Metoyer, The Metal Crawlspace -

The extreme, self described "War Metal" band 'Via Crucis', recently released a banger of an album on Coleosis Records titled "Satanchrist Decimation".

With song titles such as "Kill the Warlock, Burn the Witch", and "Firebombing Satanic Shrines", you know you're in for some ear splitting brutality.

Then there are the song lyrics, which some in the faith-based community will likely find offensive, depending on opinions pertaining to violence and profanity.

Some lyrical examples include:

"Kill the warlock

Burn the witch

Fires of hell

Claim the bitch"

...and

"As I shit upon his corpse

The Antichrist made into paste"

We tracked down the members behind the band and picked their brains about some particulars of the album. Check out what both Alex Goatman (Guitar, Lyrics, and Bass) and Bloodsucker of Demon Corpse (Guitar, Solos, and Drums) had to say from inside The Metal Crawlspace.

The Metal Crawlspace: Give us a quick band origin rundown of Via Crucis.

Goatman: We formed in 2022 out of the ashes of a project called RATLOURDE which went nowhere, Bathory rip-off type of thing. I came up with the name. We then wrote an EP in two weeks with Bloodsucker and recorded it, been active ever since.

TMC: If you had to choose a genre, what style of music would you say Via Crucis is?

Bloodsucker: War Metal

Goatman: I’d say War Metal, we are a bit doomy sometimes. I like calling it “Brutal Bestial Unblack Metal” for shits and giggles though.

TMC: Apparently, there have been some misunderstandings about the title of your newest album. Could you expound on the meaning behind "Satanchrist Decimation"?

Goatman: Just another title for Antichrist. The prefix “Satana-“ comes from the word Satan. Satanachrist in effect is the Antichrist. The decimation comes from what do to that motherfucker!

Bloodsucker: It means the total annihilation and desecration of Satan and the Antichrist. The Antichrist is a fucking pussy and holds no power. We decimate the Antichrist daily!

TMC: We hear this question a lot in music circles, so, what bands would you say Via Crucis is "for fans of"?

Bloodsucker: I would have to say Via Crucis is for fans of War metal, Black Metal, and death metal. Particularly BEHERIT, ABYSMAL LORD, and ARCHGOAT. Great bands, lyrics are cringe…

TMC: What was the vision behind the album cover art, and how does it correlate with the album title?

Bloodsucker: The album cover is a solider of Christ pointing his gun towards the Antichrist, ready to DECIMATE him!

Goatman: I took a photo I found of an IRA solider and photoshopped it so that he would be completely in view (the original photo has him behind a wall peeking out). I then created a background. The title and cover art to me represents the militancy of WAR METAL which correlates to our hatred of the Antichrist. The original photo has no relevance to the release, I just needed a photo of a solider to make some cool art.

TMC: Let's go ahead and touch on the elephant in the room for some people. The cussing in some songs. Can you expound on the thought process behind that for our readers?

Goatman: The cussing/swearing to us really isn’t a big issue at all, some people just are uncomfortable about it for whatever reason. The music is extreme and we back it up with our lyrics. You can’t just sound extreme, you need to back it up in the lyrics. It’s like some people want to swim in the pool but are scared of getting wet.

Bloodsucker: Goatman handles the lyrical content, I personally have no issue with the language. Most people listen for the music anyways. When I heard MORTIFICATION the first thing I heard were the riffs!

TMC: Is there anything else you'd like to share with our readers about Via Crucis?

Bloodsucker: We hate the Antichrist. Hails to the Underground!

Goatman: New music coming soon! New shirts as well! Hails to the true Underground!
