Sweet & Lynch recently dropped their latest single titled “You’ll Never Be Alone", and have announced the release of their third album, "Heart and Sacrifice" (pre-save/order), releasing on May 19, 2023.
For those who may not know, the Sweet represents Stryper vocalist Michael Sweet, and the Lynch represents guitarist George Lynch of Dokken fame. As an unashamed Stryper and Dokken fanatic, I have welcomed this side project with open arms since its inception in 2014.
At first listen, what stood out to me in their latest track “You’ll Never Be Alone,” was of course the unmistakable pipes of Michael Sweet, along with the legendary guitar tone of George Lynch. However, what really shined was the Bass guitar. The song captures the mellower side of the 80’s Metal sound, driven by the Bass line, which is played by James LoMenzo.
Who is James LoMenzo you ask? Well, I will propose that Mr. LoMenzo can make a case for legend status himself. James was the Bass player for 80s powerhouse White Lion, from 1984-1991. Yes, that White Lion. But wait, there’s more! After the disbandment of White Lion, James recorded Bass on full-length releases for Zakk Wylde, David Lee Roth, Black Label Society, and Sweet & Lynch. More notably, James played Bass on Megadeth’s “United Abominations” and “Endgame.”. In June of 2022, James officially joined Megadeth as the permanent replacement for former Bassist, David Ellefson.
If you're a sucker for 80's Metal and nostalgia like me, look no further than Sweet & Lynch.
