There’s bold. Then there’s Sanguisugabogg bol, the kind of bold that slaps a “HELLISH” billboard across from the Ohio State Capitol and calls it a day. The Columbus death metal degenerates are celebrating the release of their new record Hideous Aftermath (Century Media) in true 'Bogg fashion: with tongue-in-cheek blasphemy, a wall of riffs, and enough gore to make a mortician blush.

The billboard riffs on the infamous “Hell is Real” signs scattered across the Midwest, only this time, hell apparently has a soundtrack. And it’s loud, ugly, and probably bleeding from every pore.

To have our logo plastered on a billboard just across our state capitol building should be considered vandalism in some way,” the band jokes. “This is so cool. Thank you to Century Media for giving OUR city the sickest merch it could ever receive.

A “HELLISH” SANGUISUGABOGG BILLBOARD LOOMS OVER BAND’S HOMETOWN OF COLUMBUS, OHIONEW ALBUM HIDEOUS AFTERMATH OUT NOW VIA CENTURY MEDIAHEADLINE TOUR SET FOR NOVEMBER

Boundary-pushing brutalists (and recent Decibel cover stars) Sanguisugabogg, Cody Davidson (drums), Drew Arnold (bass/guitars), Devin Swank (vocals), and Ced Davis (bass/guitars) — have unleashed their new album Hideous Aftermath via Century Media.

In the band's home base of Columbus, OH, a "hellish" billboard promoting the album has been unveiled right across the street from the state capitol building, parodying the infamous “Hell is Real” billboards erected across the state in 2004 to promote Christianity to motorists.

See the photos below.

Known for being that band with the unpronounceable name and unreadable logos, Sanguisugabogg have doubled down on their reputation for carnage and chaos. Hideous Aftermath sharpens the edges of their sound, more precision, more power, more personality — without losing the sludge and splatter that made Tortured Whole (2021) and Homicidal Ecstasy (2023) underground staples.

“This is the one where we rolled our sleeves up and brought our A-Game,” says Swank.

Studio Details & Evolution

Produced by Kurt Ballou (Converge, High on Fire, Nails), the band recorded Hideous Aftermath at God City Studios in Salem, Massachusetts.

“We got off the road after A LOT of touring and wanted to drill down and be as purely creative as possible without distraction,” says Swank. “Kurt mixed Homicidal Ecstasy, so he already understood what we were going for.”

While the ‘Bogg have long been self-produced with Davidson behind the board, this time they fully surrendered to Ballou’s touch, and the result is their most cohesive and unrelenting work yet.

Hideous Aftermath finds Sanguisugabogg flexing every muscle they’ve built from years of DIY grind and international touring alongside Cannibal Corpse, Lorna Shore, and Kublai Khan.
