Review: The Metal Crawlspace Uncovers a New Gem, Deny The Fallen's 'Echo Chamber'

By Seth Metoyer - The Metal Crawlspace,

Stop whatever you are doing right now and throw on 'Echo Chamber' by Deny the Fallen! If you can't stop what you are doing (no accidents folks), then bookmark the album on your favorite streaming site to listen to asap. If you are a physical media junkie, order a copy of the limited CD pressing right now from ROXX Records. Like many metalheads, I grew up listening to the great metal band Sacred Warrior. Sacred Warrior fans will definitely dig this offering from Deny The Fallen, with Rey Parra (vox) and Jonathan Johnson (guitar), both from Sacred Warrior bringing the heaviness. But, the doors have been blown wide open on this release, with an eclectic mixture of power metal elements and also some comforting metal riffs, chugs, and tasty progressive metal intricacies.

After a couple of listens, I absolutely love what the band has done with 'Echo Chamber'. I'd say fans of Disturbed, Godsmack, and Sacred Warrior will really get into this one. It also has an Alter Bridge feel here and there (some riffs that would give Mark Tremonti a run for his money, I love the guitar work on this release). Rey Parra's vocals are killer as usual. One of the great metal vocalists still doing it today. There is also a sprinkling of some STP/post-grunge ingredients going on. I also think fans of the newest Machine Head (raises hand) will dig this offering too. It's great to see how this style of music has come back into popularity and has been injected with newer metal sounds as well.

Stand-out songs for me on "Echo Chamber" are the title track, with a beautifully orchestrated intro that flows into a slick combination of guitar chugs and power metal vocals. The second song, and my favorite track on the album, is the brilliantly written "Live Again". This song should be heard by every metal fan and should be sitting in the Top 10 of the Hard Rock Billboard charts. Everything from the lyrics to the catchy melody and off-kilter guitar chords in places really catapults this song into the stratosphere. "Point of No Return" is probably the track that resembles the roots of Sacred Warrior most on the album. "Mission" is a sick cover of one of my favorite King's X tunes. Very cool rendition. I really enjoyed all the songs on Echo Chamber', including the Stryper cover of "Sing Along Song" (which I've never been the biggest fan of, and I'd love to hear this band tackle something like "More Than a Man"). So be sure to check out Echo Chamber by Deny The Fallen, crank it up, headbang to it, play air guitar along with it, and be sure to follow Deny The Fallen on Facebook.
