Grenouer have never been a band that plays it safe, and their tenth studio album, Downtown Dream, might be the boldest statement these Russian metal innovators have made in their three-decade career. Brutal Records unleashes the record worldwide on November 21, marking a new era for a band already known for refusing to stand still.

Originally formed in 1992 in Perm, Grenouer came out swinging with a volatile blend of death metal, blackened thrash, and death’n’roll—quickly becoming underground legends across Russia and the early European extreme metal circuit. Releases like Death of a Bite (1993) and Fiery Swans (1996) cemented their cult status, but the 2000s saw the band mutate in unexpected directions. With albums like Try (2007) and Lifelong Days (2008), produced by platinum-selling Anssi Kippo (Children of Bodom, Ensiferum), Grenouer reinvented themselves with math metal angles, groove-metal heaviness, industrial grit, and progressive metalcore textures.

By the 2010s, the transformation was complete. Blood on the Face (2013), Unwanted Today (2015), and Ambition 999 (2019) embraced a futuristic mix of melodic metal, progressive rock, and atmospheric electronics. Unwanted Today scored a perfect 10/10 in Powerplay Magazine, while “Alone in the Dark” from Ambition 999 became a viral breakout with more than 30 million YouTube views. Their work has appeared in video games, metal magazines like Metal Hammer and Rock Hard, and even in comic books and dark fantasy features—proof of the band’s growing cultural footprint.

And they didn’t stop expanding. In 2021 the side project Grenouer Inc. revisited the band’s early death-metal brutality, while the main lineup continued developing their hybrid of melodic hooks, industrial electronics, djent-leaning grooves, and expressive clean/harsh vocal interplay.

Now signed to Brutal Records, Grenouer return with Downtown Dream—a sweeping, modern metal juggernaut that pulls from progressive metal, industrial, djent, atmospheric rock, tech metal, alternative metal, and melodic death metal without ever losing its identity.
