After ramping up the tension to near unbearable levels with the snarling introduction of “Precursor To Bloodshed,” Malignant Cognition drags you down into subterranean tunnels of horror and terror, each tale of blood set to a soundtrack of flesh-pulping riffs and a voice from your worst recurring nightmares. The blackly humorous title of “Leave It To Cleaver” conceals a song that is the epitome of brutality, with riffs like unwinding serpents. “Malicious Wager” opens with the words of Richard Kuklinski, and the implacable, inhuman nature of the Iceman infuses this vicious exposition of death. “Decent Deranged” is a fiercely focused act of assault and battery, wrapped in a disturbing cloak of pure malice… there is no rest from the sonic violence until the gut-twisting, skin-crawling “Stuffed Under Floorboards” finally discards your lifeless body.
