For years, Architectural Genocide have been building their world in the dark. A sealed internal dungeon of violence, obsession, and unchecked brutality. But what once lived behind locked doors is no longer content to stay hidden.
More than five years after unleashing their debut Cordyceptic Anthropomorph, Houston’s brutal death metal purveyors return with their long-awaited second full-length, Malignant Cognition—and it’s even more hostile, vicious, and psychologically unsettling than anything they’ve done before. Time hasn’t softened the band. It’s sharpened them.
The album opens with “Precursor To Bloodshed,” a nerve-shredding invocation of restrained violence that simmers just long enough before detonating into “Coercion Into Carnality.” From there, Malignant Cognition descends into relentless territory—methodical one moment, feral the next—mirroring the fractured logic of a mind in collapse. Tracks like “Trophies For My Murders” crush with suffocating weight, while “Zed Requiem” slices forward with pitiless intent. The album reaches its most disturbing peak with “Stuffed Under Floorboards,” a monstrous closer that blends chilling atmosphere with punishing riffcraft in what may be the band’s most complete and terrifying statement to date.
Visually, the album is encased in striking artwork by Rudi Yanto (Devastrosity, E-Force) and Den Yudi (Decrepitation, Rotting Demise), perfectly capturing the soul-rotting madness within. Sonically, it was mixed and mastered at Southwing Audio (Oceans of Slumber, Stabbing), ensuring maximum impact.
Malignant Cognition will be unleashed by Comatose Music on January 16. The New Year begins in blood.
